Advocacy

We have committed to donating 10% of the proceeds from every exercise video sold - reach out to me if you'd like to buy one. Proceeds go to the Lupus Research Foundation, with a focus on funding research. More information can be found on the "Lupus Research" tab and how you can help.

To me, advocacy means raising awareness and raising funds.

Do what you can, when you can. That was the motto given to me by my rheumatologist, and I think the same applies to life. If you have something to say, say it. For years, I remained silent about my illness. I was ashamed. And I feel very sad for those days because it took down my quality of life. And looking back I had nothing to be ashamed of. We have nothing to be ashamed of. But it's a lot easier to let people into your messy house after the mess has been cleaned up than when you're in the thick of it. I admit it's easier to talk about my lupus at this point, now that I am well. Not so easy when you're sick - in the throes of it.

So, make a decision. Do you want to silently advocate? Because that can be done, too. When I lobbied in D.C., I asked not to be named in any lupus publications. I did not have my picture taken with the elected officials. Instead, I walked with my friend, supported her while she supported me, and we got things done.

On the other hand, if you want to be vocal like me, join the fight. You can join our team in any capacity you want. Everyone is welcome.

I encourage you to give me a call, and work with me, my husband, Todd, and all our wonderful supporters in this awesome cause. Like Todd says, "Fight the good fight". And it's fun. We do a lot of good things, and we're looking forward to doing more.
